Banksy’s EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP to screen for Friends of the Festival!

MORE ABOUT THE FILM from MFF DIRECTOR JED DIETZ:

An amazing thing happened at Sundance this year- a surprise film was inserted into the schedule at the last minute. It didn’t even make it in to the catalogue. The filmmaker was reputed to be the sensational and secretive graffiti artist, Banksy, but there already questions about who or what Banksy was. Questions swirled around Sundance: would Banksy show?  is it a real film or a hoax ? It became the ultimate Sundance scene- lines formed around the block hours before the screening, and movie gliteratti were fighting to get in.

The movie is just opening in various cities (Aaron Hillis of the Village Voice said: “A genuinely hip, thought-provoking work of art…the definitive portrait of street-art counterculture, but also a hilarious expose on the gullibility of the masses who embrace manufactured creative personas.” )

See for yourself: Thursday night at 7:30 at the Charles. Seating is VERY limited, and of course priority goes to current Friends of the Festival.

New Yorker Highlights Matt Porterfield’s HAMILTON

From The New Yorker online:

“On Saturday night at 8, at UnionDocs, in Brooklyn, Matthew Porterfield’s remarkable first feature, hamilton.jpgHamilton,” will have a rare screening, after which I’ll moderate a discussion with the director, who will also present something from his work-in-progress, “Metal Gods.” I saw “Hamilton” when it premiered at Anthology Film Archives, in 2006; I thought then, and think now, that it’s one of the finest American independent films ever made. It’s not available on DVD, and, in any case, its exquisitely thought-out compositions are best savored on the big screen.”   — Richard Brody

HAMILTON was selected and screened in the 2006 Maryland Film Festival.
