Maryland Film Festival presents APOCALYPSE: A BILL CALLAHAN TOUR FILM on August 24th with special guests Bill Callahan and director Hanly Banks!

For the past 25 years, acclaimed Drag City recording artist Bill Callahan has cultivated an indelible musical legacy. Beginning his career as a pioneering low-fi indie rocker and evolving over 14 records, Callahan solidified his position as one of the most critically acclaimed singer-songwriters working today.

Bill Callahan was born in Silver Spring, MD and also spent portions of his adolescence in Pasadena, Columbia, and Bowie.  He began recording music in the late 1980s under the name Smog and continued to do so until 2007, when he began to release albums under his given name.

Bill‘s music — always defying easy categorization — has continued to evolve and flourish over the last two decades.  His voice has become a force of nature and his lyrics a cinematic evocation of the state of being, all of which make his songs both timely and timeless.  Callahan was a special guest at our 2010 Festival where he introduced his film of choice: FACES by John Cassavetes.

Maryland Film Festival is proud to welcome Bill Callahan back to Baltimore for a special outdoor screening of Hanly Banks‘ new documentary APOCALYPSE: A BILL CALLAHAN TOUR FILMBill Callahan will be appearing in person with Hanly Banks for a Q & A after the screening and will also perform a short solo set.

SYNOPSIS:
Shot on the U.S. leg of his 2011 tour, APOCALYPSE: A BILL CALLAHAN TOUR FILM is an impressionistic collection of live performances and scenes from the road. Filmmaker Hanly Banks explores the changing landscape through the windows of Bill’s tour van through California, the Midwest, and back to the Big Apple, in a psychedelic tapestry of footage from one of the most talked-about traveling acts of last summer.
