MOVIE TIPS

Two of Baltimore’s great filmmaking sons, David Simon and Barry Levinson,  are represented on HBO this weekend. Simon’s third episode of TREME is Sunday night, and Barry levinson’s much anticipated new work about Dr Kevorkian, the assisted suicide doctor, premieres tomorrow night at 9:00. Al Pacino plays Kevorkian, and the rest of the cast is beyond stellar- Brenda Vaccaro, Susan Sarandon, etc. There’s a great piece by David Zurawik in the Sun today.

MOTHER, by Korean director Bong joon ho, who showed real promise with his monster movie, THE HOST, opens today at the Charles. As does AA Best Foreign Film nominee AJAMI, from Israeli filmmaker Scandar Copti. It won numerous awards at film festivals around the world, including a Gold Camera at Cannes. I am eager to see both.

Stay tuned for a special screening of the mysterious EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP, made by graffiti artist Banksy.
